Man, this one took some effort. That is indeed a coherent news story on the wall. It’s fake, for sure. But I wrote it so that it would make sense. It’s not just gibberish. But to then make sure it works in black and white and after being printed in newspapers … whew … that took some jiggering. I saw it in print today and it turned out just okay. Luckily, comics fans are smart enough to get it.
I can’t control what people say here. Nor is it my place to do so. But I can say, once again, how it pains me to see anyone use one of my – clearly apolitical – cartoons, to veer off into a political riff. One of my goals has always been to make my cartoons a safe landing place far away from the ongoing stresses of the real world. So, yeah, go ahead and say what you want. Just know it’s painful for the cartoonist you stepped on to boost your views.
