Publicity counts. The bigger the uni the more significance given to choosing a speaker. That’s the celebrity thing. It isn’t for the grads. It’s for self-promotion, the tv campaign, Look at all our grads. Ain’t that great.
Considering the ceremony is the last time many will visit the alma mater, the one other good result is that parents will no longer have to shell out exorbitant amounts.
We had swings – with actual seats and not slings that compressed the bones – see-saws, slides, and trapeze bars. A very few minor spills, bun burns, and strawberries, but loads of fun.
