I don’t see how anyone could get excited about Harry Potter or the Lord Of The Rings.

I’ll just have to Google “Harry Potter vs. LotR” now.

Both were huge snoozefests. I still haven’t watched both in their entirety because I keep falling asleep.

I must be in the minority, I loved them both but LOTR more.

I think Jason has met his match.

I liked both (though there were far more plot holes and annoyances in HP for me than LOTR) but LOTR is much older and has a much larger and more diverse fanbase. I think Jason wins this round.

Eh—they were okay. I guess I’m not nerdy enough to really have much to comment on, but I preferred the Harry Potter movies—at least, the first 2. I haven’t watched all of them. I found the Lord of the Rings to be far too long. I read the Hobbit and started reading Lord of the Rings, but I found… get ready for it… that I liked David Eddings’ books better. Tolkien was great, but that was a LONG time ago. It would be awesome if they made a series of movies based on Belgarath and Polgara. Or even the Sparhawk series. Oh God—I’m sounding like a nerd! lol

If you like Harry Potter, check out Limyaael’s fanfic – 7 humongous novels, and so well written that I don’t read canon Harry Potter anymore.

Start with Saving Connor (at the very bottom) – that’s the first novel – and then work towards “I’m also thy brother”. They’re amazing.

LOTR is the bomb! Agree with Jason on this one!

I enjoyed both sets of movies, but found that both fell far short of my expectations given how much I enjoyed the books. Personally, I think I was more disappointed in LoTR than HP, though my reaction to LoTR was heavily weighted by my disgust that they didn’t start with The Hobbit, and instead rolled that story into the first movie. I also gave HP more of a pass because my movie-viewing was interspersed with my book reading (so my opinion of the books and movies was largely intertwined) whereas with LoTR, I had read the books many, many years before the movies.
