I’m from an upbringing of “It could always be worse….”
So when I look at the suggestions I don’t see:
1) Taxing religions
2) Legalizing -then regulating- Marijuana, prostitution, murder for hire….
3) Replacing social security with Soylent Green
Everything is on the table….. except sensible solutions or a willingness to work together to solve the REAL problems. Screw politics. Bring in a few accountants. They will fine the REAL waste while leaving worthwhile programs alone.
President Obama appointed a commission. It consisted of a moderate Democrat and a moderate Republican. They produced a compromise designed to appeal to moderates on both sides.
Liberal response? We have to give up something? No way. We demand it 100% our way.
The Democratic party of no. What does that tell us why they couldn’t reach any accommodations these past 4 years?
Think about it -massive defense spending cuts. Something liberals have asked for for many years. Not good enough.
Extending social security payments to wealthier workers. Something the left asked for for many years Not good enough.
Libert., please don’t keep copying & pasting your remarks.
Kylop, I agree. I wish that The New York Times site on solving the deficit (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/13/weekinreview/deficits-graphic.html?ref=weekinreview) included options to tax religion, legalize marijuana (& cocaine) & prostitution & tax them.

Let’s see…
Tax cuts
Benefit cuts
Regulation cuts
Like they say when your only tool is a hacksaw every problem looks like plywood.
