“Trex Company, Inc. is a manufacturer of wood-alternative composite decking, railing, and other outdoor items made from recycled materials. Headquartered in Winchester, Virginia, Trex is the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing. Trex composite products are made of 95% recycled materials.”…..
We have had to rebuild our decks this past year. We learned: Trex has shifted from being a brand name to being a class of similar products – just like aspirin, xerox, and band-aid. It is also competitively priced until all the bits are added in… they are much more expensive than wood-related counterparts. Railing broke the deal for me. Beyond that, we live in an area where wildfires are a threat. The synthetics are mostly plastic and burn very stubbornly once started. Wood can be quenched with a garden hose if the fire is not beyond control; the professionals have to bring the right gear to quench trex.
For people in other areas the balance may be in favor of trex. As we said in the ’70s, “YMMV – Your Mileage May Vary.”

Trex Decking sounds like the star of one of those ridiculous Netflix action series no one watches.

Lasts forever, looks like wood, but on a beach boardwalk feels like black asphalt on bare feet during a sunny summer day.

OK having just come over from reading BC, I read that as “T-REX Decking”.

Forest fire experts look for trex decks in fire surveys. They burn like a barrel of diesel fuel.

It is actually much more expensive and you have to double your support adding to the cost of installation.
