Did Governor Noem intend to eat either her dog or the goat?

  2. 8 minutes ago on Pedro X. Molina

Tell that to the GOP House…

  3. 17 minutes ago on M2Bulls

    Do you eat dogs?

Certainly Mr. Two-Bulls will correct me if I’m wrong, but it was traditional in many native cultures to apologize to the animal’s spirit after killing it, thank it for its sacrifice, and sometimes even perform rites over the bones to ensure it would return.

It isn’t so obvious that I’d have thought of it…

As I said, I’m not pushing for him to participate, so I’m not frustrated. I just don’t care for the exclusionary optics. (Is the agreement binding for both debates? Might he be on more ballots by the second? Might there be a threshold established, perhaps…?)

Well, I wouldn’t imagine a hat-wearing MAGA ever had “Trump Amnesia.” I’d say this represents those who once swore him off but are now backsliding…

“He’s one of the good ones.”

It’s worth pointing out as well that in Germany in the 20s and 30’s, “Joe Jew is a great guy, but those others have to go” was a common sentiment.

(“Some of them, I assume, are good people.”)

That being said, who agreed upon those rules? Not the Commission on Presidential Debates, they’re not involved this time.

If it’s just “Sorry, Bob, our respective campaigns agreed that you can’t debate the two of us,” the agreement can be changed.

(I’m not endorsing R2K2’s participation, but there’s no LAW against it. In 1992 there were three-way debates with Bush, Clinton and Perot.)

Those who believe that have souls don’t need proof, and again such beliefs are common today, even among some scientists. To them, it is self-evident and “realer than real.”

Leaving aside the Inquisition and such, which have more to do with power than souls, on an individual level belief in the soul instills a sense of worth, not just of life but of ONE’S OWN life, of one’s importance and place in the universe, and of one’s continued existence in some form after bodily death. It can provide solace in the face of despair, and fortitude against obstacles. It’s likely been part of our psychological/neurological evolution for hundreds of thousands of years, and it’s not going to go away just because some people insist it doesn’t exist.

It’s perhaps similar to belief in “love;” perhaps it is just brain cells and brain chemistry and hormones, perhaps it is something else, but it’s part of what human beings are and I suspect we couldn’t have survived as a species without it. In either case, if you try to argue to someone who’s firmly convinced of its existence and importance that they believe a lie you’re unlikely to succeed, and if you DO succeed you’ll have done them no favor.

September 2015, apparently. But the story had legs.
