I have to say I’m pretty much with Rat on this one. For once he told the truth and look what it got him. But businesses just don’t want to invest in their employees any more and then they complain that they can’t find qualified help.

Apparently the interviewer lacks experience, otherwise he would have been wearing a clip-on bow tie to prevent just such a problem.

If I were the one being interviewed, I’d have an answer to that last question::“I take the mail out of the box and sort it all by myself every day.”

Of course I can’t find the video anywhere, but this reminds me of the old public service announcement where the guy with the East Indian accent said, “A perplexing problem. How to get a job without experience, and how to get experience without a job.” The tagline was the address to write for more info, and he closed it out by reading, “Pueblo, Colorado 81009.”

Yeah…. That’s probably not the best way to get the job, Rat. Most companies kind of frown on applicants who murder their HR department interviewers….

I’ve been receiving mail regularly since I was about twelve years old, which would date it back to the Nixon administration. How many of the other applicants can claim that much experience in the field of mail?

This is another reason we need to bring back apprenticeship and reconsider the unrealistic minimum wage hike that hinders hiring of trainees. All this hoopla was political anyhow!

That’s called an “internship.” Illegal in a for-profit business if it’s unpaid, but who dares complain…

No big loss, that interviewer was terrible at his job. Everyone knows you’re not even supposed to give a candidate an interview unless they have experience.

Unfortunately, no employers will train their help any more. They expect them to arrive fully trained, with years of experience, and be ready to step into the job the first day with no breaking in period. I’ve been where Rat is, and my son has been where Rat is for several years now. Strip is more true than funny. Neither of us has strangled anyone yet, but…

PS There is no use lying on your resume. They have ways of checking up on you, and if you falsified anything, you are automatically OUT.

Just tell him you have a college degree in whatever their business is in Rat, they’ll take you without having the experience over someone with nearly forty years experience in the field but who doesn’t have a degree in the field. Especially if you’re related to the boss.

Rat is completely justified here. Was in the situation too many times to count during the first years out of uni.
